The mountain village Alpbach in Austria is a model location for the realisation of meetings, conferences and seminars held according to the principals of sustainability. The unique Alpbach wooden building style demonstrates the importance given over the past decades to gentle and sustainable development in the village. The European Forum Alpbach with its 4.000 participants is Alpbach’s largest and most important recurring conference and looks back on over 65 years of conference organising.
With the European Forum an excellent infrastructure developed in the Tyrolean mountain village Alpbach. The new Congress Centrum Alpbach represents a masterpiece of architectural design and impresses with its energy optimisation. The centre, which was designed to blend in with the surrounding scenery is built into the slope and has a green roof and thus does not dominate the typical Alpbach architectural style. Daylight floods in through the central glass cone in the Congress Centrum Alpbach providing plenty of daylight for the meeting and seminar rooms.
No doubt what distinguishes Alpbach today as a sustainable meetings destination is the preservation of the village character with its typical Alpbach building style and the fact that the Congress Centrum Alpbach went with the times regarding energy optimisation. During the process of putting Alpbach on the map as a Green Meeting destination various procedures connected to the carrying out of events were optimised. Notably important areas such as the energy efficiency of the deployed technology, the use of regional and seasonal ingredients by the caterers, the promotion of the use of public transport for arrivals and departures, acquisition according to sustainable criteria and a comprehensive waste management concept.
The Congress Centrum Alpbach is Green Globe certified and a licensee of the Austrian Ecolabel for Green Meetings. Close collaboration with organisers and customers is one of the success formulae for the effective implementation of Green Meetings. Two big events held at the Congress Centrum Alpbach namely the European Forum Alpbach and the Leadership Academy fulfilled the criteria for Austrian Ecolabel Green Meetings. The company’s goal is to convince many more customers to organise meetings in Alpbach in compliance with Green Meeting criteria. The provided groundwork is no doubt a most welcome additional benefit for all Congress Centrums Alpbach customers.
In addition to the main plenary hall, the centre offers five flexible seminar or committee rooms with state-of-the-art conference systems. The foyers, too, are a multifunctional design and can be used as reception areas, for coffee breaks and catering, or for parallel exhibitions. The various halls at the Alpbach Congress Centre have been named after famous people who have made a special contribution to the success of the Alpbach European Forum. The centre itself bears the name of the Austrian poet Paula von Preradovic, who wrote the words for the Austrian national anthem and also dedicated the “Alpbach Elegy” to the resort..
